Tinmen have done it - they have actually WON the XFM Rock competition! The announcement was made this morning (Dec 7th) after a nail biting standoff between the three bands that reached the final stage of the competition with a performance at the ROADHOUSE. The band played before a panel comprising the manager of the Apollo, the Happy Mondays manager, DJ/Inspiral Carpets keysman Clint Boon and a music journalist from Manchester Metro News.

All three bands performed well and consolations must be offered to the other two bands. However, Tinmen played with a passion and intensity befitting of the original song they covered - 'Transmission' by Joy Division - and simply blew the judges away.

This is a remarkable achievement given that the band only formed one month ago and are several years younger than the other finalists. This is a great testament to the band and all credit is due. Their prize is to open the XFM WINTERWONDERLAND CHARITY BENEFIT GIG AT THE APOLLO NEXT TUESDAY (Dec 11th) - performing to a capacity crowd of 3500! Other bands on that night include THE CHARLATANS, THE TING TINGS, THE CRIBBS, STEPHEN FRETWELL AND JAMES WALSH FROM STARSAILOR.
