About

bandskool is a private school whose aim is to offer a professional service to musicians at all stages in their development. There is a range of classes that can be tailored to meet a wide range of different requirements. Individual students or complete bands can sign up to any number of classes that may or may not include the band sessions. Most applicants are looking to start a band or join an existing one and in those cases, bandskool will try to place each individual in a band that is most suitable based on the information provided upon application. Once within the bandskool pool, anything is possible from transfers to other bands or the formation of new bands. bandskool also works with more established bands that have their own set of priorities. Many of our bands stay for an indefinite period of time enjoying the benefits that being a part of bandskool can bring. Satisfaction comes from seeing our bands grow, become professional, develop their creativity and go on to do things outside of bandskool.

There are opportunities to network with other musicians and bands, take part in professional concerts and regular recording sessions. Exams can be offered using a range of external examining bodies such as ROCK SCHOOL and the LONDON COLLEGE OF MUSIC. There are even performance based band exams for those that are interested. bandskool sometimes works with its bands outside the regular Saturday sessions – for example in the areas of promotions, production and management. It is in bandskool’s interest to see its bands do well if they wish to succeed.

All of bandskool’s staff are qualified musicians working within the music industry and are able to pass on their knowledge, skills and experience. Many of the staff act as mentors for our bands and form sustained relationships with them.

bandskool aims to work across a broad range of musical genre. Our previous bands have covered a cross section of styles including Rock, Metal, Punk, Indie, Ska, Progressive and Pop. But we are also open to traditional ensembles such as Brass bands, choirs, orchestras etc. Our bands and ensembles are encouraged to write and perform original music and be forward thinking in their approach.

The bandskool year consists of three terms with each term lasting ten Saturdays. Fees must be paid before the start of any term as a good level of commitment is expected. Masterclasses are individual classes that happen on weekday evenings and are open to anyone.
