Syllabus

General outline:

The aim of all bandskool's classes is to promote the musical development of the individual musician. This may take place within the context of a 'band' such as during our band coaching sessions or our improvisation classes. However, in both settings, the band is treated like a 'class' similar to those in regular school. They provide an opportunity to develop musicianship alongside other musicians in a fully interactional way! It is not necessary to put together 'ideal' bands anymore than it is necessary for you, the student, to be with ideal class mates in a school environment: it shouldn't affect your learning and growth; though of course, we try to group musicians together in way that 'work'. This is NOT fame academy and neither are we priming bands to meet the music industry's insatiable appetite for the next 'big thing'; though of course, we are delighted when bands decide to do things outside of bandskool and will help them where possible. Bandskool has the most to offer those that wish to learn and who wish to grow musically with our help. We have a team of 'floating' mentors that work with bands during the coaching sessions. Between them they decide what each term will consist of, what the aims and objectives should be. Each band session is an opportunity to explore a wide range of band related issues all of which should help the individual musician to acquire a good set of band-related skills. At the end of each term, bands have an opportunity to take part in recording sessions and a professional concert. Feedback is provided afterwards in the form of a dvd containing live audio/video recordings and a report offering constructive appraisal. Remember that learning and development are the key. If you are not looking for this then you have come to the wrong place!

Improvisation classes:

This is a new area that bandskool hopes to explore soon: regular improvisation classes will take place on Saturday afternoons and will be open to all ages (12+) and levels of ability and experience. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE IN ONE OF OUR BANDS TO TAKE PART IN THIS! However, you will need a minimum amount of playing skill on your chosen instrument. Staff and students will come together to take part in these sessions which hope to cover a range of styles: Jazz, Metal, Rock, Blues, Fusion, Progressive etc...

Music Theory classes:

Classes are aimed at the Popular Music sector and are geared towards those that wish to arrange, compose and most importantly improvise music! Classes will take place on one weekday evening per week from September 2010 onwards.

Instrumental lessons

bandskool runs a scheme aimed at private instrumental teachers all over the North West of England which allows their students to receive weekly lessons at a 20% discount once they have signed up for our band sessions. All instruments are considered though our bands create the greatest demand for guitars, vocals, keyboards and drums. If you are a student receiving instrumental lessons and are interested in joining our band sessions then ask your teacher to sign up to our scheme. Or if you are a teacher then try to encourage your students to sign up to our band sessions.  For details of bandskool's teacher reward please contact bandskool!!!
